I colori ed i loro nomi (in islandese) sono ispirati dalle pietre, minerali e rocce dell'Islanda, visibili nelle singole schede-colore, con la traduzione italiana.
Il filato einrúm è lana islandese e seta di gelso thailandese intrecciate insieme. L'interazione dei due fili esalta le qualità naturali di entrambi i fili e insieme si completano a vicenda e sono un filato unico, forte e leggero.
La lana islandese è andata sviluppandosi negli ultimi 1000 anni. Nel clima freddo dell'Islanda, un'isola del Nord Atlantico, la pecora islandese è stata isolata da altre razze e ha quindi mantenuto le sue qualità originali. La lana islandese è composta da due parti; i fili dello strato superiore sono chiamati "tog". Sono grossolani e idrorepellenti. I fili dello strato inferiore della lana sono chiamati “þel“. Sono caldi, morbidi e isolanti. Queste qualità uniche della lana mantengono una persona che indossa un capo di lana islandese, asciutto e caldo. Quando un capo di abbigliamento in lana islandese ha raggiunto la stessa temperatura della pelle di chi lo indossa, la lana smette di solleticare la pelle e mantiene una temperatura uniforme.
La seta è uno dei fili più forti della natura. La seta è prodotta dalle larve di delicati bachi da seta che vivono solo delle foglie degli alberi di gelso. La seta è nota per la sua morbidezza e uno speciale luccichìo che appare quando la luce si riflette magnificamente dalle fibre della seta a forma di prisma. I fili di seta sono assorbenti, trattengono l'umidità dal corpo ed è per questo che gli indumenti in seta mantengono una temperatura uniforme sul corpo, sia in climi freddi che caldi. I fili di seta rispondono molto bene alla tintura grazie alle loro qualità di assorbimento e la forma dei fili rende i colori chiari e luminosi.
Quando questi due fili naturali, lana e seta vengono intrecciati insieme, le loro qualità positive si uniscono e mantengono il corpo caldo e asciutto e il filato risultante è più resistente e morbido del filato realizzato esclusivamente con lana islandese. Il filato è leggero e arioso con una consistenza uniforme. La seta conferisce alla lana un sofisticato luccichìo che rende i colori del filato einrúm profondi e puri. "The einrúm yarn is Icelandic wool and Thai mulberry silk twined together. The interplay of the two threads brings out the natural qualities of both threads and together they supplement each other and are a unique yarn, strong and light.
The Icelandic wool has been developing for the last 1000 years. In the cold climate of Iceland, an island in the North-Atlantic, the Icelandic sheep has been isolated from other stocks and has therefore kept its original qualities. The Icelandic wool is made of two parts; the threads of the upper layer are called “tog“. They are coarse and water repellent. The threads of the lower layer of the wool are called “þel“. They are warm, soft and insulating. These unique qualities of the wool keep a person wearing a garment that is made from the Icelandic wool, dry and warm. When a garment made from the Icelandic wool has reached the same temperature as the skin of the person wearing it, the wool stops tickling the skin and keeps an even temperature.
Silk is one of nature‘s strongest threads. Silk is produced from the larvae of delicate silk worms that live only off the leaves of mulberry trees. Silk is known for its softness and a special shimmer that appears when light reflects beautifully from the prism formed fibres of the silk. The threads of the silk are absorbent, they keep moisture from the body and that is why garments made of silk keep an even temperature on the body, both in cold and warm climate. Silk threads respond very well to dyeing due to their absorption qualities and the form of the threads makes the colours clear and bright.
When these two natural threads, wool and silk are twined together their positive qualities are joined and keep the body warm and dry and the resulting yarn is stronger and softer than yarn that is made solely from Icelandic wool. The yarn is light and airy with an even texture. The silk gives the wool a sophisticated shimmer which makes the colours of the einrúm yarn deep and pure. The Icelandic Technology Development Fund has shown its support for this new way of looking at the Icelandic wool. einrúm has received grants from the Fund on two occasions to support marketing campaigns abroad, in Scandinavia and Germany."
